El Pollo Loco | Lost Murals
Around 60 percent of murals in Los Angeles have vanished due to whitewashing, censorship, carelessness, or a lack of resources for preservation. Many iconic LA murals are the works of Latino artists and featured imagery that connected the Latino experience to the heart of Los Angeles.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month we worked with El Pollo Loco and the LA Mural Conservancy to digitally restore five lost murals using Snapchat’s AR functionality.

Across Los Angeles we digitally restored five murals from renowned Latino artists, Juan Hector Ponce and Hector “Hex” Rios.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, anyone visiting one of the five mural locations could use Snapchat to scan a code located at the mural site to see what that mural would have looked like there, had it not been removed.
